  Orla has a condition known as cerebral palsy and found it difficult to walk even with the aid of walking sticks, she regularly fell which she and her family and friends found distressing.  Orla's mother contacted Irish Dogs for the disabled and Orla was allocated an assistance dog named Alice, Alice was specially trained to walk alongside Orla and provide a steady and stable handhold onto Alice's harness.  Orla can now walk without walking aids and she and Alice are in partnership and Orla's life has changed so much for the better.  Orla and Alice graduated in April 2009 when the Lord Mayor of Cork, Brian Birmingham officiated at their graduation (see news item)
